Rath Yatra 2021
This year, the very famous Jagannath Rath Yatra is being held on June. According to the traditional Oriya calendar lander, the festival is celebrated on the second day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Asha.
Procession during Rath Yatra
Every year the wooden gods of the three gods are taken from the Jagannath temple to the Gundicha temple. These idols are placed in an ornamental chariot with hymns and shell shells, which can be heard all around. The idols are bathed in 109 buckets of water before the yatra begins, that is the full moon of bath. He is then held in solitary confinement until the day of the march because he is considered ill. This event is called Ansar. On the day of the procession, the sacred rituals of Mount Chera are performed by the royal heir of Orissa. At present, there is a crowd of locals and devotees in the temple area.
The gods are brought out of the temple by the king and placed on the chariot during the face mountain. Before the king places it, he turns the chariot with a broom. Later he decorated the wagon with his own hands. The land to which the chariot goes is also cleared, then sandalwood is sprinkled on it.
Through this ritual it is suggested that all are equal in the eyes of God. Jagannath Temple is only accessible by Hindus but on the day of Rath Yatra people of all religions can visit the temple. The three gods stay 9 days at their aunt's house in the Gundicha temple. Later they return to their home. This return journey is called 'Bahuda Yatra'.
When they reached the Jagannath temple that evening, they waited outside. The next day the idols are decorated with new clothes like children. This phenomenon is called Sun Vesa. After this day, the gods are again placed in the sanctum sanctorum, ending the Rath Yatra of Jagannath Puri.
The main attraction of Jagannath's rathyatra is the extended chariot. Preparation of the wagon begins on the day of Akshay Tritiya. There are 3 main carriages pulled by hand by long ropes, which are 50 meters long. It is believed that pulling this rope is like contributing to your good deeds and correcting for your bad deeds.
. 6 feet ..cho .. feet, Lord Jagannath's chariot is called Nandigosa and has 18 wheels. Lord Balaram’s chariot is 45 feet high, it comes with 1 wheel and says taladhvaja. Similarly, the goddess of Devadala is the chariot of Subhadra, which has 14 wheels and .6 height 44.6 feet. Artists beautifully decorate these vehicles using design, texture and paint.
As soon as the procession starts, Lord Balram's chariot is pulled, then Goddess Subhadra and finally Lord Jagannath. The distance between the two temples is only km. But the whole enthusiasm of the tourists and the dedicated enthusiasts takes a few hours to sink into the ats and bricks of conversation. For the next 9 days, devotees can get the blessings of God and Goddess.
During the return journey, Bahuda Yatra stopped at Mausi Maa temple. Here the gods are served sweet pancakes, poda pitha ,. It is believed that this pancake is the food of the poor man and God loves it.
Jagannath Rathyatra or Rath Utsav is considered to be the oldest and largest marching festival celebrated in India every year. It is also mentioned in Hindu Puranas like Padmapuran, Brahma Puran and Skanda Puran.
